Maybelline Great Lash, Royal Blue
vs.
Revlon Fabulash, Black
Price: Great Lash is around $5, Fabulash around $7
Application: Fabulash dominates with a "lash perfecting brush" ... I got full, non-clumpy lash coverage with only 1-2 strokes, quite possibly the most impressive brush I've ever tried. Great Lash's skimpy brush doesn't come close.
Appearance: Great Lash squeaks out a win for me, only because they have a blue shade, which looks way better on me than black or brown. :) Fabulash offers blackest black, black, and brown only. Color aside, both brands gave me a typical, good for daytime look. Fabulash is more versatile -- a couple more coats and you've got high drama lashes.
Durability: I have not tried the waterproof version of either brand, so these comments are for washable. Great Lash definitely wins this one. After just a few hours, I get undereye smudges with Fabulash. And, if I don't take off my makeup before bed, I wake up with major Fabulash raccoon eyes and black smears on my pillow. Great Lash stays put all day, all night ... pretty impressive for a non-waterproof mascara.
My 2 cents ... which under $10 mascaras have you tried and how do they rate?

Re: Mascara Under $10
Sun, September 4, 2005 - 11:49 AMMerle Norman waterproof is only a few dollars over your price and it does not run, lasts, and looks like real lashes. I'm someone who always gets racoon eyes and only Dior show and Lancome waterproof (both of which are $$) have worked nearly as well. MN's mascara is about 14.00 and is truly excellent.
If I had to pick between your choices it would be Great Lash Royal mainly because blue does not look as noticeable when it smudges. -

Mon, September 5, 2005 - 10:04 AMI luuuuuv Loreal Full Definition Voluminous in the gold tube. My girlfriends & I call it volumptuous (sp?) cuz that's what it makes your lashes look like. Target has it for a about $5.99. I get racoon eyes something fierce & this actually stays put... even on hot & humid Dallas summer days! -

Tue, September 20, 2005 - 9:25 PM"Volumptous" indeed! I tried the gold tube and it ROCKS! OK, this is my personal new top under $10 pick ... incredible brush, no clumping whatsoevah, and only a teeeeeny tiny bit of smudging when I left it on all night.
Thanks for the excellent lash advice, Miss Heather!

Re: Mascara Under $10
Tue, September 6, 2005 - 6:46 AMI loved Fabulash. It worked nicely. Right now, I am using an Avon one that curls. It is a little more liquidy, which seems to keep it from clumping, but I will probably return to the Fabulash eventually.

Re: Mascara Under $10
Sat, April 29, 2006 - 9:01 AMCheap mascara update!
Great Lash is still my everyday fave (the Voluptous was great, but for everyday it's too smudgy for my taste). Here are two new picks:
Maybelline Lash Stylist: This has a little comb applicator instead of the usual brush. Very very thick and dramatic lashes, a little clumpy. Definitely more of an evening look.
Max Factor Lash Perfection: This has a plastic-looking yellow bristle brush applicator. It really does make a difference. Zero clumping, very long well defined results. Plus it comes in dark blue, which I love. Depending on how many coats you use, this is good for day and night.
Happy lashing!

Re: Mascara Under $10
Sat, April 29, 2006 - 9:47 AMAlmay Triple Effect One-coat Mascara... I think the word "Nourishing" is in there too somewhere. Lengthens, thickens, curls, has a 2-sided brush with longer bristles on one side for general application, and short bristles on the other for adding thickness. My lashes have never looked thicker/longer, and it holds up well all day without flaking off. Sells for around $7.00. -

Sun, April 30, 2006 - 5:14 PMI second the Almay triple effect. It's really smooth and easy to work with. Plus it's hypo-allergenic which is always a plus for me!
