Eyelash extensions . . . have you tried them?

A salon I frequent has eyelash extensions, which are false eyelashes that are semi-permanently attached to your own. I am thinking about how much time that would save me each morning, but I am a little scaredy-cat. Has anyone tried them? How long do they last? Has anyone had an allergic reaction?

  • This is a long shot, but if you can get your hands on the April 6-12 issue of Time Out New York, on page 66 there is a review of Xtreme Lashes, Lavish Lash, and Shu Uemura eyelash extensions. Here's some info from that article:

Maintenance: No hot showers or saunas the first 48 hours, no eye rubbing or sleeping facedown, no mascara or eyelash curlers, and no oil-based eye makeup products.

    Cost: $300-550

    Application: 1-3 hours

    Longevity: Xtreme = 1-2 weeks; Lavish = 4 weeks; Shu = 5 weeks
  • Yes, I tried them. I have a friend who is the regional instructor for xtreme lash and is moving to New York to train people, so I feel that she did a great job! To break it down for you:
    1. Time-if you have a lot of time (and I mean a lot of time!) for your initial application go for it. It took us about 5 hours, but let me tell you I looked fierce when she was done! After the initial application I think it's pretty much like having artificial nails with maintainance-about once every two weeks for a few that may kick the bucket due to wear and tear.
    2. They do feel a little weird for awhile and they tend to get sorta twisted into one another if you have them extended quite a bit (I did) and washing you face at night takes some getting used to because you have to BABY them in order to keep them looking good.
    3. If you can handle the cost and maintaining them, I think that they are worth it. I liked it that people were constantly commenting on my lashes and asking me if they were mine or not! I have fairly long eyelashed that look pretty good with mascara, but with the extensions they looked amazing.
Let me know what you decide to do!!

  • eyelash extensions are great as long as you get them done by someone certified by xtreme lashes. don't just go for the cheapest place around. lora at magic hands skin and body in springfield, nj does great lashes. they call her the lash dr! she has some celebrity clients as well so you know she's good. she's at magic hands skin and body in springfield, nj and i know she also travels all over to do lashes and lash parties. www.thelashdr.com gives before and after pics of her work
