What gets rid of dark spots caused by acne?

Okay, so, I unfortunately was put on lithium last year and I had also picked up smoking. Needless to say, it wreaked havoc on my skin. I am now nicotine and lithium free and things are starting to clear up. I am using the proactiv solution treatment. I've used it before with great results, but I have soooo many dark spots on my chin and around my mouth from where I broke out last summer.

Can anyone recommend a good fading lotion? acne spot remover? Exfoliation cream? A relatively cheap medical procedure even? I'm pretty broke actually, but I really want to feel good again!

There are a lot of great products out there with Hydroquinone which helps lighten dark spots. Such as Bleaching Cream with Hydroquinone by Black And White you can find it at Walmart and drug stores around $6 or less.

I have very sensitive skin and I cant use hydroquinone products but I have found a great line through Avon, www.avon.com, it's there Anew line and it works great on people with sensitive skin. My favorite products are the Luminosity Ultra Advanced Skin Brightener $22 and the Clinical 2 step Facial Peel $32. Both fade dark spots, no irritation, and they are very gentle on the skin. I havent had any break outs since using these products.

Avon usually have good campaigns and you can buy they together to cut down on the price.

    Hope that helps.

Thank you so much. That definitely helps. I'm going to try the hydroquinone products first. Can they make them non-comedogenic? Or do you find that they cause break-outs (other than allergic reactions)?

I don't know that hydroquinone products would be appropriate for acne scars; it is usually used for hyperpigmentation to lighten the skin where too much melanin is produced.
Several companies have products specifically for acne scars. Neutrogena's Advanced Solutions makes both an acne scar fading masque, and a couple of exfoliating or microdermabrasion products. I would try those first. Also, there are several general scar-fading products, like Mederma.

I went to the store to check out the Neutrogena products, and I found something specifically for acne scars with hydroqunine in it! So I went ahead and bought it...it's made my "Acne Free", a product that compares itself to the Proactiv line. So, I'm using proactiv with this acne scar fading product. We'll see! fingers crossed!

I also am skipping using foundation for awhile (except when I go out on weekends) and just using neutrogenas concealer stick with salycilic acid.

Not sure if this would work or not but it is good for exfoliation. Mix some uncoated aspirin with enough water to make a paste on put on whereever you need to get smooth or have spots. Leave on til crusty, less then 10 minutes. Google "aspirin mask" for exact directions and stuff.

Well, I'm just using proactiv for now trying to get my face to stop breaking out first.

Once it seems more "under control", I'm going to try the "Acne Free Acne Dark Spot Fader" stuff with the hydroquinine in it.

I stopped using foundation (unless I'm going to a party or something) and I'm only using neutrogena's medicated concealer and some loose powder to even out things.

Interesting about the aspirin paste...how does that work?
